In a nutshell
Large, high-voltage MPPT solar charge controller, 450 V and 200 A, for 48 V batteries only. It has 4 independent MPPT trackers (four separate panel inputs) and delivers up to 11,520 W of charge to the battery.
Victron presents it as its solution for systems with long strings of panels, large off-grid systems and grid-connected battery systems.
What the numbers on this controller mean
- The input volts (450 V) are the maximum that the panels connected in series can add up to on each input. Bear in mind the Voc (open-circuit voltage) of your panels and leave some margin: on cool mornings it rises a little.
- The amps (200 A) are the maximum current it delivers to the 48 V battery.
- Unlike normal MPPTs, it has 4 trackers: each one independently seeks the best operating point of its own string of panels.
- If more panels are connected than it can handle, the controller simply does not use the excess (excess power does not damage it). But never exceed the input voltage: that does break it.
About this model (450 V · 200 A, 4 trackers)
- Each tracker works between 65 and 450 V (it starts when the panels exceed 120 V), accepts up to 16 A of operating current (20 A short-circuit) and up to 7,200 W of panels.
- For example, if a panel has 50.6 V open-circuit, seven in series add up to 354 V and eight, 405 V per tracker, below the 450 V; since on cool mornings the Voc rises, the exact number of panels is calculated by the technician.
- Charge power: up to 11,520 W at 48 V (4,000 W per tracker).
- Maximum efficiency 96 %, display and active ventilation, steel casing.
- Panels with MC4 connectors (one pair per tracker) and battery with M8 bolts.
- Bluetooth (VictronConnect app), VE.Direct and VE.Can, with up to 25 units synchronized in parallel.
